Toyota says initial reports of GR Yaris Rallye pricing are “purely speculative”

Toyota says prices provided by dealers for the upcoming GR Yaris Rallye edition are not confirmed.

Toyota Australia says reports of pricing for the GR Yaris Rallye edition are “purely speculative” – the final RRP has not been confirmed, and will be announced later this month or closer to its arrival next year.

Yesterday, CarAdvice reported the Toyota GR Yaris Rallye edition would be priced from $49,950 plus on-road costs – which dealers estimated would equate to between $53,500 and $53,900 drive-away.

This is the same price originally quoted for the regular Toyota GR Yaris model, before the initial discount offer of $39,950 drive-away for the first 1000 cars (which sold out within a week).

After CarAdvice published the story yesterday, Toyota Australia said pricing for the GR Yaris Rallye edition was yet to be confirmed and declined to comment on the accuracy of the figure published.

The story sparked strong debate among fans – and customers – of the Toyota GR Yaris.

Some thought the reported price for the Rallye edition was fair, others were furious that it was the same as the RRP for the regular model – even though the base car has so far only been available for $39,950 drive-away or $44,950 drive-away, at least $9000 less than the reported price for the Rallye edition.

After Toyota Australia insisted the GR Yaris Rallye price was not confirmed, CarAdvice contacted numerous Toyota dealers again.

They repeated the $49,950 RRP, said the vehicle was able to be selected in the company’s internal ordering system, which they claimed showed a price listed for a GR Yaris Rallye.

This afternoon, Toyota Australia issued the following statement: “We understand the excitement surrounding an outstanding pure performance car like GR Yaris, whether in standard or Rallye guise. We will not be communicating pricing for the special-edition GR Yaris Rallye to our dealers and the public until closer to the launch.”
