2021 Ford Ranger price and specs: Wildtrak X returns

Sub-Raptor, accessorised Wildtrak X continues into 2021 with new additions.

  • 2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrak X updated for the new year
  • Orange and black exterior and interior accents added for 2021
  • Wheel-arch flares, nudge bar and other upgrades carry over
  • The Ranger Wildtrak X starts from $66,490 to $67,990 plus on-road costs

The popular Ford Ranger Wildtrak X will receive a number of minor tweaks for 2021.

First announced in late 2019, and then updated again in August 2020, the ‘MY21.25’ Ranger Wildtrak X dual-cab gains a handful of additions over MY20 versions, many of which mirror changes to Thai-delivered Rangers earlier this month.

Updates include ‘Sabre’ orange accents for the ‘sail plane’ sports bar and dual-nostril front grille, and a new Ebony Black finish – replacing MY20’s Bolder Grey – wheel-arch flares, grille, sailplane, front and rear lower bumper trim, mirror caps, roof rails, front quarter trim, and door and tailgate handles.

Inside, MY21.25 Wildtrak X models pick up unique black leather seat trim with Sabre orange accents, additional leather covering for the side bolsters (replacing the suede that previously trimmed the outside faces of the bolsters), and new illuminated front door sills. The current model’s orange contrast stitching – shared with the ‘standard’ Wildtrak – carries over.

The new year won’t herald any additions to the Ranger Wildtrak X’s list of mechanical upgrades over the normal Wildtrak, which include a black front nudge bar, 20.5-inch front Lumen LED light bar, black side steps, Wildtrak X badging and unique 18-inch black alloy wheels (with +35mm offset).

However, judging by the images released by Ford, the MY21.25 model appears to lose the black snorkel fitted to 2020 Wildtrak X utes.

Other standard features – all of which remain unchanged for 2021 – include an 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and satellite navigation, plus a reversing camera, bi-LED headlights, keyless entry, push-button start and a power roller shutter securing the tray.

A full suite of safety technologies is fitted as standard, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control (but no lane-keep assist), hill start assist, hill descent control, tyre pressure monitoring, an electronically-locking rear differential and Active Park Assist.

There’s also support for Ford’s FordPass Connect smartphone app, which allows owners to lock/unlock their Ranger, start its engine remotely, locate it when parked, and check fuel levels and tyre pressures.

Two powertrain options are on offer, as before: a 147kW/470Nm 3.2-litre turbocharged five-cylinder diesel mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, or a 157kW/500Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged four-cylinder diesel paired with a 10-speed automatic.

The six-speed manual transmission, previously offered as standard with the 3.2-litre Wildtrak X in 2020, has seen the axe for 2021.

The 2.0-litre engine offers the better on-paper stats of the pair, claiming a 3500kg braked towing capacity, 943kg payload and a combined fuel economy claim of 7.4L/100km.

The 3.2-litre Wildtrak X models can also tow 3500kg, but offer payload capacity and fuel economy figures of 913kg and 8.9L/100km respectively.

As with all 2021 Ford Rangers, the Wildtrak X benefits from a five-year unlimited-kilometre factory warranty, 15,000km/12-month service intervals and Ford’s ‘Ford Service Benefits’ program, which adds a free loan car come time for a service, roadside assistance, satellite map updates, and four years of fixed-price servicing, at $299 each.

Only one optional extra is available: prestige paint, for an additional $650.

The 2021 Ford Ranger Wildtrak X will land in showrooms in early 2021.
