Mid-size sports SUV to arrive in April with new tech, updated styling and a touch less power, but identical pricing to the outgoing Special Edition.
- 2021 Audi SQ5 TDI price and specs revealed
- Sports SUV updated with new design, upgraded cabin
- Turbo-diesel, mild-hybrid V6 develops 251kW and 700Nm
- Priced from $104,900 upon April showroom arrival
Australian pricing and specification details for the 2021 Audi SQ5 have been released, ahead of the sporty SUV’s showroom arrival in April.
The updated SQ5 benefits from the same upgrades as the facelifted Q5 mid-size SUV launched locally in recent months, including an updated exterior design, a revised tech-laden interior and the addition of advanced OLED tail-lights.
However, despite the design updates and additional equipment, prices are unchanged over last year’s Audi SQ5 TDI Special Edition – which was introduced in November 2020, and saw the return of diesel power to the SQ5 for the first time since 2016 – at $104,900 before on-road costs.
A sportier, coupe-styled SQ5 Sportback will follow in the second half of this year.

Under the bonnet of the 2021 SQ5 is a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine, mated to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive – identical to the outgoing SQ5 Special Edition.
Outputs are rated at 251kW (down 4kW over the pre-facelift model) and 700Nm, with Audi claiming a 5.1-second 0-100km/h sprint time.
Despite the similar core mechanicals, a range of tweaks have occurred under the engine’s skin to improve efficiency and performance, including a more efficient turbocharger, an updated electrically-powered compressor (which drives the turbo at low revs when exhaust gases are insufficient), and an uprated mild-hybrid system, capable of shutting off the engine for up to 40 seconds at speed, improving economy.
Fuel consumption is rated at 7.0L/100km on the combined cycle.

Standard equipment on the new SQ5 includes a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto and satellite navigation, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, a 19-speaker, 755-watt Bang & Olufsen 3D premium sound system, digital radio, keyless entry, push-button start, a panoramic sunroof and wireless phone charging.
There’s also privacy glass, tri-zone climate control, 30-colour ambient LED cabin lighting, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, diamond-patterned nappa leather interior trim, heated power-adjustable front sports seats, a leather-wrapped sports steering wheel (with paddle shifters), and Audi connect plus connected-car services.
On the outside, 21-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, red brake calipers, matrix LED headlights, LED tail-lights, an electric tailgate and a sporty body kit with aluminium accents are fitted as standard, while standard features under the skin include adaptive dampers, which let the SQ5 sit 30mm closer to the road than the standard Q5.
Standard active safety features include autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, traffic jam assist, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, plus hill-descent control and hold assist.
